As an artist, my mind is constantly running and coming up with new ideas. I pull inspiration from the places I visit, the wonders of nature, the people I meet, and so much more. Generally, this means that when an idea pops into my head, I have to act on it. This results in fun, unique earrings or entire collections surrounding an idea.
When I started putting together pieces for my newest collection, I originally envisioned it being Japanese inspired. I started creating and going with what felt right. After stepping back, I realized that I was only creating clouds. That’s when I decided to shift my focus and go with what is now known as the Transient Collection.
What it Means to Be Transient
I spent some time researching to find a term that represented what I was trying to achieve. One day I found “transient” and it fit perfectly. Tran·sient: lasting only for a short time; impermanent. Clouds are always changing and unique. In essence, they’re transient.
People have a strong connection to clouds, both positive and negative. Normally storm clouds are associated with negative thinking. At the same time, clear skies and fluffy clouds are associated with happiness and bliss. There’s an inherent duality with clouds. We aren’t always happy, and that is okay.
Clouds come and go at their own pace. There is a lack of control, a go with the flow mentality of surrendering to what is going on in your life and accepting the changes. Clouds are like thoughts and the sky is the space they inhabit. We are the sky; clouds are our thoughts. They come and go. When you think of clouds or even your cloudy thoughts, I challenge you to see them as a new perspective.
We aren’t our thoughts. It’s so easy to get caught up in thinking our thoughts make us who we are. You are not your thoughts. You are not your negativity. They’re just transient visitors.
